At 1st Great Wyrley Scouts, we give young people the chance to explore, grow, and thrive through adventure, friendship, and hands‑on learning. Every week, our leaders create a safe, energetic, and inclusive environment where young people can discover new skills, build confidence, and have fun.

🌿 Indoor & Outdoor Adventures

Our programme blends the best of indoor creativity with the excitement of the outdoors.

Indoor Adventures

  • Cooking and food skills
  • Crafts and creative projects
  • Games and team challenges
  • Singing, problem‑solving, and skill‑building activities

Outdoor Adventures

  • Camping and campcraft

  • Navigation and survival skills
  • All activities are delivered by trained, experienced leaders who prioritise safety, learning, and adventure.

⭐ Leadership & Life Skills

Scouting is about more than activities — it’s about growth. Through challenges, teamwork, and project‑based learning, our young people develop:

  • Leadership qualities
  • Communication skills
  • Responsibility and independence
  • Confidence and resilience

Through our Leadership Development program, scouts have the opportunity to develop essential leadership qualities, communication skills, and teamwork through various challenges and projects.

🤝 Community & Service

We’re proud to be part of the Great Wyrley community. Our Scouts take part in meaningful projects that help them:

  • Give back to their local area
  • Learn empathy and responsibility
  • Make a positive impact on the world around them

🕒 When We Meet

We meet every Wednesday during school term time at the Great Wyrley Scout & Guide Centre.

🏠 Our Home: The Great Wyrley Scout & Guide Centre

We are the owners and custodians of the Great Wyrley Scout & Guide Centre — a space built for young people and cared for with pride, responsibility, and long‑term commitment.

Although the Centre is owned and managed by 1st Great Wyrley Scouts, we are equally proud to share it with 2nd Great Wyrley Scouts and the local Girlguiding community, including Rainbows, Brownies, and Guides. Together, we keep the Centre thriving as a welcoming home for adventure, learning, and community spirit.

A Place with History

The clearest historical detail available online is that the land for the Centre was gifted to the Scouts and Guides in February 1979, with the support of Mike Collins, who was a Parish Councillor at the time. This gift laid the foundation for creating a permanent home for Scouting and Guiding in Great Wyrley.

The Centre itself was built in the 1980s, funded and developed through local community effort, volunteer labour, and the shared vision of providing a dedicated youth facility for the area. Since then, it has served as a long‑standing base for both Scouting and Guiding.
